Since those early days of exploration I have gained 35 years of education and experience in the field of photography. Wherever it took me, I’ve always been passionate about capturing the landscape. As owner of a portrait studio for over 12 years, no portrait, wedding or event has ever given me quite the same satisfaction as creating that “wall hanger” landscape. The combination of being outdoors and working with the tools that I find so comforting is a process that soothes my soul from start to finish and keeps me going back for more.
Lake Superior, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Hiawatha National Forest and the wilds of Michigan's Upper Peninsula have given me a bounty of subject matter unlike any other region of the country. I spent several years photographing in the desert southwest and pacific northwest but Michigan is a special place for me. The four seasons of scenic landscapes and a freshwater ocean with pristine beaches is a hard combination to pull away from for very long. The magic of Lake Superior's crystal waters is an experience I try to convey in my landscapes.
All of my photographs are printed and framed by myself using archival inks and professional art papers. The Wilhelm Institute has a Lightfast Rating for my images at "Over 100 years".
